Jurgen W. Feldschmid
After graduating from Dalhousie Law School in 1994, Jurgen joined Duboff Edwards Haight & Schachter as an associate in 1995 after being called to the Manitoba Bar that year. He became a partner in 2005, continuing his practice in the areas of Family Law, Child Protection, Civil Litigation and Administrative Law.
Jurgen has appeared before all trial and appellate court levels in Manitoba, trial level courts in Ontario, the Federal Court of Canada, and the Federal Court of Appeal. He has also appeared before administrative tribunals, including the Manitoba Public Utilities Board and inquests under The Fatality Inquiries Act.
Serving an active role on the Executive Committee of the Family Law Section of the Manitoba Bar Association, Jurgen assists with professional development seminars and submissions to government regarding legislative and policy issues in the family law area. In this role, he also liaises with professions relevant to family law, from psychologists and social workers who conduct counselling and parenting assessments, to accountants and business valuators who provide financial advice in support and property matters.
As a volunteer, Jurgen serves on the board of the Manitoba Federation of Independent Schools and is a former Board Member and Secretary of Ten Ten Sinclair Housing Inc. He is also a member of the Law Society of Manitoba and the Canadian Bar Association.
A proud father of two teenage children and an avid cyclist and runner, Jurgen has competed in many cycling races, charity rides, half-marathons and other runs. He is a member of the FOG Manitoba Cycling Club, Manitoba and Canadian Cycling Associations, as well as Union Cycliste Internationale, the International governing body for cycling.
Prior to attending law school, Jurgen earned Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) and Master of Arts degrees from the University of Manitoba. His graduate thesis was on international political economy and trade. While completing his graduate work, Jurgen was awarded a Learned Societies Travelling Scholarship, a University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowship and worked as a Legislative Intern at the Manitoba Legislature.
Prior to university, Jurgen attended St. Paul’s High School and has served on the Board there in recent years.
